Week 2 answers

1. What is browser-safe color palette/ web-safe colors?

It is a series of dark and less saturated colours mostly used in designing web pages that are to be viewed from a 256 colour computer system. It is a palette the most browsers, such as Mosaic, Netscape, and IE use in their browser. It contains 216 colours out of 256.

2. Is it still relevant in the today’s context? Why?

No. Today, it is safe to design web pages without the browser-safe palette. This is because people nowadays seldom view web from 256 colours computer anymore.

However, many companies feel that it is a honor to design with these colour palette.

3. What are the common fonts face found on PC and Mac?

Some of the most common fonts are the Arial family, Counrier New, and Times New Roman.

4. What is page loading time and how it influence your design?

Page loading time refers to the amount of time the user has to wait for a new link, or web page, to load (appear).

Usually, a web page with huge file size requires more time for loading. This will lead to the decrease of interest in the user as well as inconvenience.

This will influence the web designer. Thus when designing a web, it is important to try to reduce the size of the file.

5. http://www.web-strategist.com/blog/2007/03/19/web-design-and-worflow-process-comparison Read about web design process article above and write what you think about it.

After reading the article above, I noticed that there are several steps one require to design and create a successful website. From planning, to execution, one need alot of focus, passion, and most importantly, efford. Also, I have learnt quite a few important steps in designing a web page from the article.

Before you start designing, one has to analyse the ideas. Most of the design process in the article mentioned thumbnail sketching, initial drafts, research and discovery.

Some process required more efforts than the rest. The took the efford to explore, and discover new things. Such as typefaces, designs, and images.

Though the most common theme are design, and produce, a few of the processes the article had mentioned does not include analysis before starting, while some skipped a few more steps. Some do not require testing or evaluation.

Personally, I believe that it is a good thing to procceed on with the Instructional Design Process. This include analysis, design, development, implement and evaluation. I find these steps very useful.

Some processes involved even more work than the Instructional Design Process. They do testing, post-launch, mock up, and took the extra efforts to make it better.

To me, I think the processes are useful and relevant. However, the effort put in are huge. Therefore, as I have mentioned, to create a web site, one has to have a huge passion, focus and efforts.
